Benefits of Thai Yoga Massage

Announcing Major Breakthrough Massage and Stretching Method in treating pain and injuries and stress related conditions.

LOTUS PALM THAI YOGA MASSAGE AND ACTIVE ISOLATED STRETCHING

  • Thai Yoga (Lotus Palm Method)

    What is it:

    • It has been called yoga massage, assisted hatha yoga, Thai massage or thai bodywork. CNN has dubbed it "the lazy man's yoga"
    • Thai Yoga is an ancient healing tradition, believed to have originated in India 2500 years ago and made its way to Thailand through Buddhist monks where it's practice evolved and was refined.
    • It is based upon principles of India's ayurvedic medicine and yoga
    • Renowned for restoring balance to the body's energy system as well as providing an overall sense of relaxation.

    The method:

    • U.S. News & World report calls it a combination of assisted yoga, massage and acupuncture.
    • Total Body stretch says, it is a combination of gentle stretches and the application of pressure is used to realign the body and open the energy channels (referred to as sen in Thai)
    • This "opening" allows energy to flow freely along the sen lines.
    • Ten major sen lines are focused on in Thai Yoga.
    • By working the body physically and energetically, Thai massage produces a highly therapeutic effect which helps relieve common conditions such as low back pain, arthritis, headaches, digestive difficulties, menstrual problems and stress related conditions

    What to expect:

    • Session will begin with a brief consultation and review of symtoms, medical history and lifestyle.
    • This exceptional massage is done on a padded floor mat while dressed in loose, comfortable clothing to permit mobility during stretches and allow you to enjoy a most profound healing experience.
    • No oils or lotions
    • Never feel significant pain
    • Conscious use of the breath
    • Spend about an 1 1/2 hour. Most sessions are 1 1/2 hour minimum, though some can be 1 hour or 1 1/4 hour long. Two hour sessions are most powerful.
    • A highly enjoyable experience which is very different from the hard work of stretching in a exercise class.

    Who is massage good for:

    • In Thailand, doctors fully endorse Thai Yoga Massage as a means of alleviating stress, stiffness, muscle pain and headaches
    • The more convinced Thai doctors, extend that to circulatory, nervous, respiratory and digestive problems. See note.
    • Yoga practitioners in particular are very happy with Thai Yoga because it allows them to deepen and expand their practice and make quicker flexibility gains
    • Almost for everyone ranging from the athlete to fitness enthusiast to professionals and  baby boomers to
    • Note: Thai Yoga Massage or any bodywork, is not appropriate with certain medical conditions. Refer to FAQ or Policies Section

Active Isolated Stretching (AIS)

What is it:

  • AIS was named and developed by a man named Aaron Mattes, who has worked with thousands of patients, doctors and health professionals.
  • It is one of the most popular methods of stretching utilized by today's athletes, chiropractors, massage therapists, personal and athletic trainers and professionals.
  • AIS is an effective, therapeutic treatment for deep and superficial fascial release and muscle lengthening
  • It provides effective, dynamic, facilitated stretching of major muscle groups as well as fascial planes.
  • As a form of natural healing therapy, it allows the body to function more naturally and efficiently and repair itself to prepare for daily activity.

It's distinguishing features

  • The specific muscles to be stretched are isolated
  • Actively contract the muscle opposite the isolated muscle, which allows the isolated muscle to relax in preparation for its stretch
  • The stretch is performed for no more than 2 seconds, allowing the target muscle to optimally lengthen without triggering the protective stretch reflex
  • Return to the starting position and relax for 2 seconds
  • Repeat 6-10 times for optimal results
  • Done in a slow, controlled, rhythmic fashion
  • Synchronize your breathing with your movement

What to expect during a session

  • Lying down comfortably on a massage table or sitting
  • Client is fully participating, thus active in the stretching process
  • Using the proper protocol or sequence of stretches
  • AIS sessions typically last 1 hour or can be 1/2 hour or 1 1/2 hours.
  • Move the muscles slowly and rhythmically to the point of light resistance.

Additional tips

  • Never force, jerk or overstretch a muscle
  • Treat your injuries and/or pain immediately as they occur, not doing so will reduce muscle power and efficiency
  • Increase your water intake
  • Engage in more activities such as massage, stretching, qigong, yoga, pilates, tai chi, etc.

What are the benefits

  • an increase in functional ROM (range of motion)
  • reduction of low back pain and injury
  • reduction in the incidence and severity of injury
  • delay in the onset of muscular fatigue
  • improvement in posture and muscle symmetry
  • prevention and alleviation of muscle soreness after exercise
  • increase in level of certain skills and muscular efficiency
  • promotion of mental relaxation

You probably already know that daily ongoing pain, stress and tension affects your health in a detrimental way.

  1. Are you not standing as straight and tall as you once did?
  2. Is it getting harder to look to the left and right while driving?
  3. Do you feel stiff sitting through a long movie?
  4. Is standing on one leg to put on your shoe difficult or impossible?
  5. Is walking up a flight of stairs a strain at times?
